The importance of ecological interventions
in neurodevelopmental disorders
Prato, April 11, 2026
The Pecci Centre for Contemporary Art in Prato hosted the conference “The Importance of Ecological Interventions in Neurodevelopmental Disorders”, curated by the Fabrizio Moretti Foundation in collaboration with the Centro Pecci and under the patronage of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Prato. The event provided an important opportunity for discussion among specialists, researchers, and professionals involved in the care and treatment of neurodevelopmental disorders.
Among the distinguished speakers, neuroscientist Giacomo Rizzolatti, renowned for the discovery of mirror neurons, and Catherine Barthelemy, one of Europe's leading experts on autism, delivered keynote lectures offering valuable insights into the latest developments in neuroscience and rehabilitation.
A significant part of the conference was dedicated to Animal-Assisted Interventions, therapeutic approaches that are increasingly being used in the treatment of neurodevelopmental disorders to support the development of relational, communicative, and emotional skills while improving patients’ well-being and quality of life. The conference explored both the scientific and methodological aspects of these interventions, as well as practical experiences developed in hospital and community settings.
The scientific committee of the conference was coordinated by Dr. Cinzia Pieraccini, Child Neuropsychiatrist and Autism Coordinator for AUSL Toscana Centro, and Dr. Filippo Risaliti, Director of the Internal Medicine Department at the Mugello Hospital.
